The Festival was launched in late March 2010. Its aim was to provide an opportunity for the country’s youth to express their ideas and dreams about their future through the media. The festival will empower the next generation of leaders to discover the power of their creativity and learn to express their voices through different mediums including radio, television, the Internet, blogging, photography, posters, art and music.
The Festival delivered training to over 1,000 young people across Afghanistan. The Festival also provided a grants scheme and awards to foster and build youth journalism in the country. The Festival peaked during August with a series of special events and activities to celebrate International Youth Day on August 12 2010.
The 2010 Afghan Youth Voices Festival was led by Internews Afghanistan and Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan and was supported by the Ministry of Information and Culture, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Education.
